Our Visit to Yorkshire Museum
Year 5 pupils recently experienced life in Anglo Saxon York in the 11th century. At a special workshop at the Yorkshire Museum, pupil's met Oshere the Thane and his wife Aelle, and had to decide if they were willing to be Oath Helpers for Eadgar, accused of stealing bread made for the Thane’s feast!
We handled valuable museum artefacts (in our special white gloves!) and took part in activities to find out about home life, manufacture, artistry and religion in Eoforwic, the Anglo Saxon name for York. As you can see, we really enjoyed dressing up in Anglo Saxon robes!

This year in Year 5 GLH we were incredibly fortunate to have local professional writer, James Nash come and work with us. We examined and old trumpet and explored how to describe it using all five senses. We had to get pretty creative. How does a trumpet taste?
Everyone was excited to be taught by a published writer but little did we know how much James would enjoy his time with us (keep an eye out for future James Nash publications for evidence of plagiarism) All the adults were amazed at the level of thought provoking imagery put forward by the children of year 5.
Finally the class prepared for a performance of their poems. Every single child showed buckets of confidence and a tonne of bravery by standing up in front of Key Stage 2 and reciting an excerpt from their own poems.
